Statement by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Occasion of World Theatre Day
OTTAWA, March 27, 2010 - World Theatre Day is an opportunity to celebrate theatre across the country and around the world. The performing arts are a powerful medium: actors make us laugh and cry, transport us to a different place, and help broaden our view of the world.

Theatre not only entertains and enlightens, it is also a means to reflect our past, share diverse perspectives, and celebrate the beauty of the spoken word in both official languages, as well as other languages. Our Government is proud to invest in infrastructure and training programs so that Canadians everywhere can enjoy quality performances now and in the future.

On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I encourage all Canadians to take a moment to reflect on the playwrights who craft the story, the actors who bring the roles to life, and those behind the scenes who make it all possible.
