Statement by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Occasion of the 2010 JUNO Awards
OTTAWA, April 18, 2010 - Canadian culture reflects the diversity of our population. Nowhere is this more evident than in our music industry: composers, songwriters, singers, and musicians from coast to coast to coast have built a solid music industry that enriches our cultural and artistic life. Many of these artists are gathered in St. John's at the 2010 JUNO Awards, to honour outstanding creative and technical achievements.

Our Government recognizes the contribution of arts and culture to our society, our identity, and our economy. That is why we invest, in a variety of ways, in Canadian arts and culture, including music.

On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I applaud the talented nominees and winners of the 2010 JUNO Awards. I commend the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences on presenting this opportunity to celebrate Canadian musical excellence.
