On behalf of the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry, the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced that the Government of Canada, through the Marquee Tourism Events Program, is investing more than $100 000 to support Festival du Bois, an annual family event celebrating French-Canadian history.
“This is exciting news for all involved in Festival du Bois,” said Minister Moore. “The funding from our government’s Marquee Tourism Events Program will help bolster tourism, create jobs and stimulate the local economy.”
Festival du Bois features live music performances, workshops, children’s activities, art exhibitions and a variety of traditional culinary offerings. The federal funding will help the festival become an established cultural and tourist attraction in the Greater Vancouver Area by enhancing marketing and promotional efforts to attract both domestic and international visitors to the event and surrounding areas.
“Festival du Bois greatly appreciates this support from the Marquee Tourism Events Program,” said Richard Soumis, President, Festival du Bois. “These funds will enable us to provide greater visibility for our event and demonstrate the dynamic Francophonie offerings of both our region and our province.”
Through the Marquee Tourism Events Program, the Government of Canada is investing $100 million over two years to support events across the country. The program will help organizers expand the reach of their events and promote Canada as a must-see tourist destination to visitors from around the globe.
The Marquee Tourism Events Program is one of several tourism-related programs announced in Canada’s Economic Action Plan. These programs provide measures to support Canada’s economy, stimulate the growth of tourism and contribute to the development of Canada’s visitor economy over the long term. They include:
- $150 million over two years for national parks and historic sites; and
- $40 million over two years to the Canadian Tourism Commission for domestic and international marketing.
