Government of Canada Celebrates the Launch of the Canada Media Fund
TORONTO, March 26, 2010 - The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today attended the launch of guidelines for the Canada Media Fund (CMF).

"Our Government is committed to helping our producers and broadcasters do what they do best: create, entertain, and connect with Canadians," said Minister Moore. "We commend the leadership and staff of the Canada Media Fund. The Fund will provide direct support for industry, spur job creation, and most importantly, provide Canadians with the content they want to watch on the platform on which they want to watch it."

The Canada Media Fund guidelines were developed following extensive consultations to support the direction set by the Minister of Canadian Heritage: getting governance and accountability right, focusing the investment on what Canadians want, rewarding success and innovation, and levelling the playing field.

The CMF will support Canadian creative talent, including writers, directors, and performers, in both official languages. Support will also continue for Aboriginal and minority French-language productions, as well as programs in third languages where demand and funding are present.

In 2010-2011 the contribution to the Canada Media Fund will total more than $360 million.
