Statement by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Occasion of the 2010 Genie Awards
OTTAWA, April 13, 2010 - The Canadian audiovisual industry is strong and successful because of the thousands of enterprising people who work within it. Telling our unique and diverse stories, Canada's films do an outstanding job of showcasing Canadian culture at home and abroad. For thirty years, the Genie Awards have helped promote Canadian culture by honouring excellence in our film industry. Our Government understands the importance of creativity and innovation, and we are pleased to invest in an industry that strengthens our shared sense of Canadian identity and contributes significantly to our economy. On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I commend the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, on this the 30th anniversary of the Genie Awards, on its efforts to promote this important industry, and I congratulate this year's nominees and winners on a great year of Canadian film.
