Celebrating our Community
Port Moody - James Moore, Member of Parliament for Port Moody–Westwood–Port Coquitlam, Minister of Industry, and Minister Responsible for British Columbia, joined by representatives of the provincial government, volunteers, staff and members of the community, celebrated the official ribbon cutting and re-opening of the Mossom Creek Hatchery and Education Centre.

Serving the Tri-Cities since 1976, Mossom Creek Hatchery was destroyed by a fire in December 2013.  Beloved by the community for its educational and environmental programs, residents of the Tri-Cities young and old have contributed to the rebuilding. From the City of Port Moody donating meeting space, emergency operating funding and a trailer to support operations, local community organizations like the Port Moody Firefighters Union and the Rotary Club of Port Moody providing donations, local businesses providing building materials, and local school clubs and children donating bake sale proceeds and birthday present money, the rebuilding and reopening of the Mossom Creek Hatchery has been a labour of love for the entire Tri-Cities.  The important contribution that the Hatchery makes to salmon populations throughout the Lower Mainland was also recognized by a $100,000 grant from the Pacific Salmon Foundation to help with the rebuilding.

Staffed entirely by volunteers, today`s ribbon cutting will see a treasure of the Tri-Cities reopen and continue teaching thousands of students and families about the life cycle of Salmon.... Read More
